From the release of the network integration plan early in 2010, to the submission of the first version of trail scheme on April 2nd, and to the final conclusion of the sixth version of scheme proposed in June 6th, the national plan on network integration has been accelerated and the concept of network integration that was put forward several years ago has finally actualized. In addition to the technical issues, the broadcasting and telecom operators cannot reach consensus on many aspects since the proposal of network integration concept. Besides the profit factor, the final solution of network integration brought the opportunity for CMMB to be greatly developed.
CMMB is one of the most representative value-added services dominated by SARFT in wireless broadband access network. As China¡¯s independent IPR, CMMB has obtained rapid progresses in coverage optimization, operation main part construction, terminal industrialization since the trail commercialization with TD systems at Beijing Olympics, and is formally commercialized by now. But the competition between SARFT and Telecom operators on the profit division, to some degree, impeded the relative marketing promotion. The network integration offers a thorough solution to this issue, so that CMMB should also focus on mobile-oriented applications while making great effort to network construction and promotion.
First, CMMB is difficult to be independently promoted, but the network integration provides good opportunity for CMMB to penetrate into telecom terminals. With the background of network integration, the CMMB and TD bundled mobile terminals have reached a win-win situation. It can be seen from the current market that the market share of tablet PC and UMPC grows rapidly, in addition to smart phones, so it is believed that more profitable room can be explored if CMMB and relative operating modes can be added to tablet PC and UMPC.
Second, a manageable and controllable value-added CMMB service platform is highly demanded. The current CMMB platform constructed by CBC is qualified to meet the primary requirements on CMMB services, but a manageable and controllable value-added CMMB service platform is still a must for the explored future services in various fields. Like IPTV, the development of mobile TV aims at interactive functions which can attract the most users and bring the largest competitive edges to CMMB.
CMMB, in addition to being promoted in Mainland China, is also currently exploring the overseas market. CBC has planned to introduce CMMB to 30 countries and regions within 3 years while the applications in Tadzhikistan has formally started.
