The global construction of WiMAX and LTE has been rapidly increased since 2010. With the development of wireless broadband access networks, the users become accustomed to the high-rate mobile data services. From 3G to LTE/802.16e, and from 4G to LTE-Advanced/802.16m, the technical evolution has brought an explosive lift to the network capacity, and requirements on user application have been gradually changed.

It is absolute that the development of future mobile communication networks will transfer from technology-dominated to application-dominated. Having been restricted by the network performance, the wireless applications in 1G analog network and 2G CDMA/GSM network have been restricted to vocal and message services. Since the birth of 3G, people began to experience diversified wireless data services. With the update of technologies, the research and application on OFDM, MIMO, Beamforming, Multi-carrier multiplexing bundle, Distributed antenna, Adaptive self-organization, and relay have brought a qualitative leap to the coverage and performance of mobile communication systems. Several years ago, people were excited about the 3G system with 2Mbps transmission rate, but today, rate of dozens of Mbps in HSPA system and 100Mbps rate in LTE system have been successfully realized and even certain breakthroughs have been made to G-bit network technologies. The development of technologies broke the barriers for the data applications, but many strong operators such as Vodafone and China Mobile are sensible enough not to upgrade their network to the maximum technical level due to the limited market applications.

In the coming wireless broadband access age, the traditional vocal and message services will only account for a small part of the network services, while such data services and value-added services as wireless Internet browsing, video calls and conferences, video on demand, network games, mobile TV and online payment will take over as the dominant applications. Since most of the current data services do not request 100M network performance, the operators utilize the current 3G networks to make smooth evolutions when considering the cost factors, as the HSPA and HSPA+ networks can fully meet the users¡¯ requirements.
   
While the mobile communication network equipment market remains in a downturn since 2010, the miracle of iphone and the success of google HTC both symbolized that the development of mobile terminals are no longer simply dominated by the hardware quality. Though technology is regarded as the base for the development of communication networks, diversified mobile applications and expansive services will become the new foothold for the mobile industry and bring new opportunities for the development of communication industry when technology has been developed into a certain degree.
