On June 15th of 2007, an inauguration ceremony
for the Sino-Swedish Strategic Cooperative Programme
on Next Generation Networks: “IMT-Advanced and Beyond”
was held in the conference room of Swedish Governmental
Agency for Innovation Systems (VINNOVA), which was
attended by the officials from both Swedish and
Chinese Governments, representatives from FuTURE
FORUM, experts from nearly 20 research institutes,
universities and enterprises from both Sweden and
China.

on campus |
Recently, FuTURE FORUM has initiated
the “FuTURE New Mobile Life” Article Solicitation
Campaign, hoping to inspire the public interest on
the future mobile communication industry and to find
out novel user requirements on the future mobile communication.
As an important part of the series of investigations
on user requirements conducted recently, the article
solicitation campaign will also as the resources for
elicitations and innovations in the R&D of future
mobile communication technologies.

The awarded and return banquet of FuTURE
FORUM was given on April 4th of 2007, after the council
meeting which was attended by the leaders from NDRC,
MOST, MII, The State Radio Monitoring Center, CCSA,
CATR, representatives from 26 council members, namely
Huawei, ZTE, Datang, China Telecom, China Mobile,
China Unicom, China Netcom, Siemens, Ericsson, NTT
DoCoMo, Samsung, Tsinghua University, BUPT, and Southeast
University, senior representatives from the four major
operators, and other forum members as well as experts
and scholars in mobile communication field.

Second General Assembly of FuTURE FORUM and Seminar

FuTURE FORUM held the second General Assembly in
Beijing Xiyuan Hotel on April 5th of 2007, on which

The Second Council Meeting of FuTURE
FORUM was held in Beijing on April 4th of 2007.The
council meeting was attended by the leaders and representatives
from the 26 council members of FuTURE FORUM, namely

China Unicom, China Netcom, Siemens, Ericsson, NTT
DoCoMo, Samsung, Tsinghua University, BUPT, and Southeast
University. The awarded and return banquet was given
after the council meeting which was attended by the

Center, CCSA, CATR, senior representatives from the
four major operators as well as experts and scholars
in mobile communication field.

Fifth Working Group Meeting --- WG3 Sub-Meeting
The WG3 additional sub-meeting of the fifth working
group meeting was held in State Radio Monitoring
Center on February 12th of 2007, hosted by Chairman
of the 3rd working group, Mr. Wang Jian. The members
discussed the output and compilation of the white
paper 2006 and the compilation of different chapters
were assigned to various forum members. It was promised
that the final version of the white paper will be
output in early March. Meanwhile, the focuses of
WG3’ work in the next was also discussed. The forum
members greatly supported the Chairman of WG3 and
undertook relative compiling tasks.

The
fifth working group meeting of 2006 |
The fifth working group meeting of
FuTURE FORUM in 2006 was held in Siyuan Hotel in Guang’an
City, Sichuan Province from January 31st to February
1st of 2007. The overall meeting, hosted by Ms. Shi
Youyan who was responsible for the daily affaires
of the secretariat, was held on the morning of January
31st on which Prof. You Xiaohu, Chairman of FuTURE
FORUM, after hearing the conclusive report of each
working group, made a conclusion on the work done
in the past year. He addressed that FuTURE FORUM had
done a lot of work in the past year according to the
preset schedule and had accumulated much experience
for the future work.

| Investigation
on Rural Customer Requirements Starts up in Sichuan
Province
In order to enhance the research on customer requirements,
and as the expansion of the WG1 and WG2 sub-meeting,
staff from FuTURE FORUM Secretariat and representatives
from the forum members conducted a questionnaire
survey on the current situation of rural mobile
communication and on the market requirements on
future applications in some rural-urban fringes
such Guang’an City and Langzhong Town in Sichuan
Province during the fifth working group meeting
of 2006 which was held from January 31st to February
2nd of 2007.

activities named “FuTURE Action”. The first round

one of the state-recognized poverty-stricken counties.

“Seminar on Key Broadband Communication Technology”
FuTURE MOBILE COMMUNICATION FORUM held the “FuTURE
Activity Open Week”, during which several activities
were successively conducted, including the “FuTURE
Trial System Open Day”, “Seminar on Key Broadband
Communication Technology”, “The fifth Working Group
Meeting of FuTURE FORUM”, and “Rural Investigation
and Communication”. The “FuTURE Activity Open Week”
lasted the longest among all the activities that
had been organized by FuTURE FORUM, so it was widely
focused on and participated by the members. Shanghai
was the first stop in the open week where the “FuTURE
Trial System Open Day” and “Seminar on Key Broadband
Communication Technology” were held.

Sides of the Taiwan Straits Cooperate to Promote
the Development of Future Mobile Communication Industry |
Invited by Taiwan 3G CLUB, FuTURE FORUM
Delegation, headed by Mr. Yu Shengduo, Director of
Division of High-Tech, Department of Science and Technology
of MII, and Prof. You Xiaohu, Secretary-General of
FuTURE FORUM, paid a ten-day visit to a dozen of famous
enterprises, research institutes and universities
in Taiwan mobile communication industry, during which
the Seminar on the development of advanced technology
in telecommunication industry on both sides of the
Taiwan Straits was successfully held.
