FuTURE Forum-Milestone

January 2005, the forum preparation team was set up, supported by Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Information Industry, and National Development and Reform Commission. The team was headed by Prof. You Xiaohu, leader of expert team of FuTURE mobile research, and Ms. Cao Shumin, vice dean of Telecommunication Research Institute of Ministry of Information Industry.
September 9, 2005, representatives from all the 26 original members and the leaders of the relative departments got together to attend the preparing meeting of FuTURE Mobile Communication Forum, which laid a strong groundwork for the formal establishment of the forum.
October 17, 2005, FuTURE Mobile Communication Forum announced its formal establishment in Shanghai, which symbolized that China would be playing a more important role in the international mobile communication development.
October 18-21, 2005, the “International Summit Conference on Future Mobile Communication” was held in Shanghai, which was a global event for the development of mobile communication technology and standards and succeeded in expanding the influence of the forum.

October 17, 2005 FuTURE Mobile Communication Forum announced its formal establishment in Shanghai on October 17, 2005, which symbolized that China would be playing a more important role in the international development of the mobile communication in the future.
October 18-21, 2005 The International Summit Conference on Future Mobile Communication was held in Shanghai from October 18 to 21, 2005, which was an global event for the development of mobile communication technology and standards and succeeded in expanding the influence of the forum.
October 21, 2005, FuTURE Forum, mITF, NGMC and WR held their first Four-Party Conference, in which a series of memorandums of cooperation were signed to promote the global exchange and cooperation in mobile communication technology.
March 24, 2006, the first council meeting of the forum was held, before which the chairman, vice-chairman, secretary-general and deputy secretary-general, the head and the deputy head of the working group were elected. Subsequently, the council, the working group and the secretariat of the forum, as well as other functional department, have been established, and the forum officially began operation.
April 20-21, 2006, the working groups for the Future Mobile Communication Forum held their first session of meetings, defined the development targets for the working groups and the research content and annual plan, which symbolized a start for working groups’ activities.
October 31, 2006, the overall certification conference for the FuTURE Project under National 863 Plan and the 4G Mobile Communication Field Trial System was successfully held in Shanghai. China’s first research result for the post 3G/4G mobile communication development, which is a remarkable contribution having been studied for 5 years, means that China has reached the world leading level of future mobile communication technology. Relying on this, the forum has also played magnificent roles.
November, 29, 2006, the Sino-South Korea and Sino-Japan 5th working group meetings on 4G mobile communication were held in Hainan province, China. Government leaders from Japan, South Korea and China gathered to plan for the development of 4G mobile communication and further promotion to a new round of international cooperation.
January 14-23, being invited by Taiwan 3G CLUB, delegation of FuTURE forum visited Taiwan, and successful held the “Seminar on the development of advanced technology in telecommunication industry on both sides of the Taiwan Straits”. Subsequently the two sides signed a memorandum of cooperation to carry out comprehensive cross-strait exchanges and cooperation.
January 30, 2007, FuTURE forum initiated a series of public donation activities named “FuTURE Action”, donating nearly 1 million Yuan both in cash and materials to the central elementary school of Mujia Town in Linshui County, Guang’an City, Sichuan Province. A “FuTURE Hope Project Library” and a “FuTURE Hope Project Computer Room” were built for the school as well.
April 5, 2007, the awarded and return banquet of FuTURE forum 2006 was given in Beijing XiYuan hotel. Over 200 people gathered together including senior leaders of NDRC, MOST, MII, the four major telecom operators, and forum member representatives to share the two years achievements of the forum and the results of future mobile communication development both domestic and international.
June 15, 2007, during the Sino-Swedish Technology Week, the signing ceremony of the cooperation memorandum was held for the “Sino-Swedish strategic cooperative program on next generation networks”, which was initiated and promoted by the FuTURE forum. The seminar on the next generation communication and network (NGN) was held subsequently, which symbolized a formal start of the Sino-Swedish strategic project, in which both the two sides invested huge sums of money, trying to change the next generation communication technology and the industry pattern of the world.
