Summary Meeting of the 2nd Working Group Meeting
of FuTURE FORUM 2008
The summary meeting of the 2nd working group meeting of FuTURE FORUM was held on the afternoon of July 17th, attended by Prof. You Xiaohu, Secretary-General of FuTURE FORUM, Prof. Wang Jing from Tsinghua University, Prof. Zhu Guangxi from HUST, and Prof. Zhu Shihua from Xi¡¯an Jiaotong University.
On the summary meeting, the chairs of the working groups reported the latest progresses and the results of the sub-meetings. The User Requirement Group, concerning about the minimum IMT-Advanced requirements posed by ITU, consulted with the operators and conducted relative research, hoping to propose on behalf of the Forum the suggestion on the minimum requirements. The working groups applied special discussions in the R&D of services and application from the 2nd working group meeting. WG2 defined two subjects respectively from social demands and technical progresses: Emergent Communication Application and Short-distance Wireless Access. Concerning the increasingly strained spectrum resources, WG3 will focus on the flexible application of spectrum and proposed joint working manners with other groups. Air interface, radio resource management, and network architecture are still major concerns of the members who continued to intorduce many new technologies. BWA group had their first sub meeting in Changchun, reaching certain consensus on the content and orientation of the research and the working manners of the group.
Having listened to the reports, the experts put forward some suggestions and made certain comments that the discussion of each group covered all the key mobile communication technologies and FuTURE FORUM should further improve the working system and enhance the cooperation between the enterprises and universities.
Prof. You Xiaohu made a conclusion and proposed some stresses for the future work. With the minimum IMT-Advanced requirements being proposed by ITU, the work stress will be transferred to technical assessment. Some new requirements on services such as low energy consumption and green environment protection demand multiple researches by the groups. The allocation of the four defined spectrums should be further studied and clarified to improve the spectrum utilization. Prof. You brought forward several possible orientations for the hot technologies including multi-cell interference collaboration and cancellation, novel cell network organization, problems brought by Network Structure Flat, spectrum sharing, and feasible cross-layer design. According to the plan, the newly built BWA group will interact with some national projects to actualize its research work and to bring some new research methods and manners to FuTURE FORUM.
