The International Conference on Beyond 3G Mobile Communications-2008 (ICB3G 2008)
Organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications Japan (MIC) and the Japan National Institute of information and Communications Technology (NICT), the International Conference on Beyond 3G Mobile Communications-2008 (ICB3G 2008) was held in Tokyo from March 27th to 28th. Officials from government of China, Japan, and Korea, Experts from research institutions as well as representatives of mobile communication companies attended the two-day meeting, exchanging information and ideas on IMT-Advanced standardization, R&D activities, and governmental policies. The meeting was held against the backdrop of WRC-07, in which concrete spectrum bands to be assigned for ¡°IMT-Advanced¡± were identified as a result of deliberations pertaining to its spectrum-related issues. It is therefore expected that standardization activities for ¡°IMT-Advanced¡± systems will gain momentum on a global scale toward its commercialization in the future. Through the discussions on each country¡¯s standardization efforts for ¡°IMT-Advanced¡± as Beyond 3G systems, its prospects for commercialization from a technical standpoint and its future expectations from the perspective of services, the meeting did successful contribution to facilitating the research, development and standardization of ¡°IMT-Advanced¡±.
