The 6th session of the Sino-Korea working committee for the 4th generation mobile communication
April 1st of 2008, the 6th session of the Sino-Korea working committee for the 4th generation mobile communication was held in Seoul of Korea, on which the seniors from Chinese and Korean governments and experts in relative fields gathered again to discuss the overall cooperation in the next generation communication industry between China and Korea.
The session was attended by the Korean delegation headed by Mr. Jin Zhengyi, Director from Ministry of Knowledge Economy of Korea consisting of 10 representatives respectively from ETRI and NGMC; and the Chinese delegation composed by Mr. Qiang Xiaozhe, Director from Division of Information, Department of High & New Tech. Development and Industrialization of MOST, Mr. Chen Zhimin and Mr. Fu Yaowei, Directors of High Tech Research and Development Center, Mr. Miao Jun, Director of Information Division of STCSM, Prof. You Xiaohu, Secretary-General of FuTURE FORUM, Ms. Wang Yuhong and Ms. Cao Yuan, staff of FuTURE FORUM.
Director Jin Zhengyi from Ministry of Knowledge Economy of Korea made a welcome speech and introduced the Ministry of Knowledge Economy newly built on Feb. 29th which took over the mobile communication service that had been originally supervised by MIC and would be in charge of the promotion of the next generation mobile communication industry. He expressed that the next generation mobile communication, as a diversified and confluent service, requires the improved cooperation between Korea and China in standardization, technical development and market exploration in order to dominate the market of the next generation mobile communication services. Director Jin hoped that the strategic cooperation will be strengthened by the both governments and the communication between research institutes and enterprises should be further enhanced.
Director Qiang Xiaozhe addressed on behalf of Chinese Delegation, affirming the improved and enhanced cooperation and communication between Korean and Chinese governments, enterprises, research institutes and universities since the fourth session of the Sino-Korea working committee for the 4th generation mobile communication held in 2003; and introducing the effort made by Chinese government to promote the development of mobile communication technologies.
Director Qiang indicated that the next generation mobile communication, as the mainstream trend for the development of information technology, had been listed by Chinese government as one of the 16 significant programs under the National Medium-and-Long-Term Plan for Scientific and Technological Development, in which Chinese government will invest more outlay to support the R&D and industrial development of the next generation mobile communication technology.
According to Director Qiang, TD services have been in trial commercialization in eight cities in China. China keeps promoting the development of B3G technology so as to contribute to the global mobile communication industry. MOST of China has been attaching great importance to the international cooperation between Korea and China in developing mobile communication technology and set up a series of joint R&D projects. Chinese government hoped to maintain and enhance the cooperation and communication between the both sides.
Afterwards, the experts from both sides respectively made speeches introducing the progresses achieved in the R&D of B3G/4G technologies as well as plans for IMT-Advanced development. In addition, the both sides signed the MOU for continuing to support the cooperation and joint projects developed between FuTURE China and NGMC Korea as well as between Chinese universities and ETRI from Korea, exploring new cooperative modes and projects in the next generation mobile communication industry, and actively promoting communication and cooperation in standard research and IPR related issues between the both sides. The session came to a successful conclusion with friendly communication and good wishes.
The Sino-Korea working committee for the 4th generation mobile communication has been contributing to the cooperation between China and Korea in developing the next generation mobile communication technology and achieving remarkable accomplishments since its opening. The 6th session, with a tight schedule, still played an important role in improving mutual communication and expanding cooperation scope between the both sides.
